HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
The HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support course comprises both practical training plus face-to-face training hours. Providing both public and private training throughout Australia and New Zealand, Healthcorp’s professional industry trainers will teach you the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond to or manage an emergency situation. Learn to assess and provide first aid support to the sick and injured or the confidence to supervise the management and information control of work, health and safety requirements in the workplace.
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support training provides the necessary skills required to provide a first aid response including life support and the management of any casualties on the scene as well as management of other first aiders. This course is recommended for those in charge of first aid in a workplace. The course comprises practical training plus face-to-face training hours.
The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the workplace or community setting. There must be evidence that the candidate has completed the following tasks in line with State/Territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies and workplace or site procedures:
Followed DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines, including:
- manage the unconscious, breathing casualty including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise
- manage the unconscious, non-breathing adult, including:
- perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
- follow single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compression
- follow the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock
- responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
- handing over to emergency services
- providing an accurate verbal report of the incident
- reviewing the incident
- manage the unconscious, non-breathing infant, including:
- single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
Applied first aid procedures for the following:
- anaphylaxis
- asthma
- non-life-threatening bleeding
- choking
- shock
Responded to at least one simulated first aid incident contextualised to the candidate’s workplace or community setting, where the candidate has no knowledge of the casualty’s condition prior to starting treatment, including:
- identifying the casualty’s illness or injury through history, signs and symptoms
- using personal protective equipment (PPE)
- providing appropriate first aid treatment
- conveying incident details to emergency services or advising casualty on any required post incident action
- providing an accurate verbal report of the incident
- reviewing the incident.
Heathcorp’s HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support course is available in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Australia-wide. The face to face training is 6.5 hours and covers both theory and practical aspects of basic emergency life support training. Students are required to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the course commencement or will be refused entry. There is a short multiple choice quiz at the end of the training covering the course theory learnt that day. Students will also be assessed on practical skills as a requirement to pass the course. Once completed, all students will receive a First Aid manual.
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support certificate is valid for three (3) years from the completion date. The Code of Practice and Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills are refreshed annually.
Once enrolled, Healthcorp will email students a booking confirmation with venue details and maps, course requirements and terms of enrollment.
